Former Commissioner publishes carbon footprint report

A report conducted by former EU Internal Market Commissioner Mario Monti says that EU standards for measuring and auditing carbon footprints are vital if Europe is to create a proper functioning single market for green products. The report, which has been submitted to European Commission President José Manuel Barroso, also calls for a better regulatory framework in order to encourage renewable energy sources and smart-metering. The report also warns against a raft of national approaches to low-carbon technologies, which risk fragmenting the market.
