MEPs back new legislation tackle biowaste

The European Parliament’s Environment Committee has called for a Directive on biowaste with mandatory separate collection. MEPs overwhelmingly adopted José Manuel Fernandes (European Peoples’ Party, Portugal)’s motion for a resolution, which urged the Commission to rethink its position that new legislation is unnecessary. The Commission favours strengthening existing legislation.
