A UK Parliamentary Committee has called for the power to intervene in the EU ETSi if the system fails to encourage investments in cleaner energy. The 16-member panel said that the UK should think about acting unilaterally to curb its supply of permits, and should into financial incentives to encourage companies within the EU ETS to voluntarily cancel allowances they own. The Commission opposes intervention, arguing that prices should reflect supply and demand.
